LEST Basketball-Fast and Furious!!!

Basketball starts off with a prayer for safety and good sportsmanship, as well as thanking God for their ability to play the game!

Justin on the free throw line for 2 shots!

Justin (#32) plays a very physical game of basketball. Here you see him pushing another player out of his way...

Justin making a move towards the basket!

Justin awaits the ball as his opponent flies toward him!

One of the results of his hard play...this one on his elbow! But he never complains...just gets up and goes for more!
The Warriors only won 1 of the 3 games they played, but they had FUN!!!

Old Friends are the BEST!!!

We were able to connect with a Lake Retreat buddy (and his family) while we were down in Portland! The Fronks: Dave, Michelle, Thad, Heidi and Mat. They live in Vancouver, WA. They all came by our hotel for a swim on Thursday night. On Saturday after LEST was over we left Tyler with the Fronks and Justin and I travelled home! (That was a peaceful ride!) Today we drove south and Dave, Thad and Tyler drove north. We met up in Centralia for the return of Tyler! He had a really great time and can't wait for camp to see his bud again!

Just Killin' Time

Have you ever tried to hold the camera out in front of you and take a picture of yourself? As we were waiting for one of Justin's LEST games to start I thought I would try to get a nice picture of Tyler and me...

This is not a particularly easy thing to do with a teenager who doesn't want his picture taken.

His goal then became to mess up every picture I took!

I tried...

And tried...

And tried again...

With finally a couple decent shots at the end...

Gotta love him!!!

Marimba Blue Ribbon Performance

Justin and his buddy Kramer play the baritone marimba on the song "Heavy Roller". They are both 2nd year players!

Justin stands in front of the big bass marimba. It is the largest instrument in the group!

Justin proudly shows off the blue ribbon and the award that the ensemble won!

And we're off...

We (Tyler, Justin and me) are leaving tonite for a Concordia Lutheran School competition in Portland, OR. Every year the school participates in L.E.S.T (Lutheran elementary schools tournament). This year Justin will be competing on the basketball team and in his marimba music group. The basketball will be alot of fun, but I really love the marimba group! A marimba is like a xylophone and range in size from the one that looks like a toy that babies play with to the "big bass" that is so big you have to stand on a large box to be able to reach it! Justin is so naturally musical and he does really well at it! I will post pictures when we return. I will try to post a video of the marimba performance as well...(I will need your help Mark!!!).

Happy Super Bowl Birthday!

Yesterday was not only the Super Bowl- it was my birthday! Justin volunteered to make my cake. He worked very hard and it turned out wonderfully!

Isn't it beautiful? He made my favorite kind-cherry chip! It was very tasty too...nice and moist! Grandma Carol said she wants Justin to make her cake on her birthday. I guess I've lost my job as "official Miller cake maker"!!!

We brought it to Grandpa Clyde & Grandma Carol's house to enjoy before the Super Bowl.

Justin even served the cake to everyone!

Tyler also helped out by serving the ice cream!
Thanks boys it was great! If I have to be another year older, it was a perfect way to celebrate!
