Lake Retreat Family Camp 2009

Our family has carried on the tradition that my parents started when I was young of going to Family Camp at Lake Retreat every summer.

Tyler, Thad and Justin- they see each other only about 2 times a year, but as soon as they get together it is like they haven't spent any time apart!

Good times!

The boys with Gpa and Gma.

Waiting for the cardboard boat races to start.

Tyler caught in the act...

The adult banquet this year was Hawaiian themed.

Tyler and mom at the tire swing. I couldn't get him to climb in it this year.

Justin either...

That's as close as i could get them.

They played some lively games of pickleball this year. Lots of sibling rivalry frustrations were taken out on the court.

Tyler- I don't know how he could see the ball through all the hair.

Thad, Tyler and Justin watch more pickleball.

Justin played in the pickleball tournament this year.

Another wonderful year at Lake Retreat! We can't wait until next year- we look forward to this week all year long! Join us next year! For information go to www.lakeretreat.org

Lake Retreat Helping Hands Weekend

Our Room: Lundgren #1

We love our camp! Every Memorial Day Weekend there is a work weekend at the camp to get it ready for the summer season.

Tyler was able to help James this year. James actually was able to install fire sprinklers in the new rec pavilion.

James on the lift.

Installing pipe.

Justin and Tommy work at getting a giant rock loose.

They also did landscaping. It was a great weekend!

Family Camp 2008

Our door...In Lundgren Lodge-named after my grandfather on my mom's side. Bror Lundgren.

Airsoft maniacs. They were able to play airsoft on the camp's paintball field. L to R: Tommy, Justin, James, Jordan, Dave and Thad.

Tyler and Justin with Gpa and Gma outside the dining hall.

The gang coming up the hill.

Justin played in a pickleball tournament. He took 3rd place. He took 1st place in the mini-golf and in the 3-on-3 basketball tournaments.

On the water trampoline. The weather was not the best on this day but they still had fun in the water. Justin, Thad and Tyler.

Justin in the crow's nest and Tyler trying to knock him off!

Tommy (our neighbor who came with us) challenges Rick to solve the Rubix Cube in the "North American Idol" talent show. Tommy easily solved it in less than 2 minutes this time!

Justin, Tommy, Thad and Tyler enjoy one of the great meals we had this year. The food was very good considering it was "camp food".
It was a great week at camp. It is so good to see old friends every year and to just pick up where you left off last summer. It really is like one great big family. Watching the kids grow up year to year and sharing in every one's joys and sorrows. I think it gives us a glimpse of what heaven will be like... Anyone who would be interested in joining us next year, just let us know we would be happy to get you the information. Hurry though...camp fills up fast!!!

Welcome to the Crow's Nest!

Here my boys have fun with the crow's nest at Lake Retreat. Justin is in the basket at the top and Tyler is attempting to flip him out!

We're Off!!!

We are off on our annual Family Camp week at Lake Retreat Camp in Ravensdale, WA. This is a camp that my family went to when I was growing up and now we go with our kids and (my parents) Gpa & Gma Miller.

James will only get to be there part of the time because his union was on strike a couple of weeks ago and they are back to work now.

This is a video of Justin being "blobbed" last year at camp. Be patient watching it...not sure what the hold up was but he does eventually go flying! (sorry I don't know how to rotate it!)

I will post new pictures when we return!

Helping Hands Weekend at Lake Retreat

This weekend we went to Lake Retreat Camp in Ravensdale, WA. This is the camp where we go to Family Camp every summer. Every Memorial Day weekend they have a Helping Hands weekend to do projects around the camp to get it ready for the camping season. We go every year. My parents have gone with us for the past few years as well. We arrive Friday night and get settled in our room and then off to meet up with friends. Quite a few friends from Family Camp come to this weekend as well.
Saturday morning we work until lunch and then after lunch...back to work until dinner. Sunday is a free day with the waterfront open for activities. Monday morning we work until lunch and then we are free to go home!
James was assigned to do some pipe laying and he had Justin and Tommy (our neighbor) help him.

Grandpa Clyde was working on the nature trail and came across some large pieces of wood that had to be removed. Here he is supervising as Tommy, Tyler, Justin and Thad move the wood to the bon fire.

They don't get too far before they think it might be fun to "dirt surf". After a few tries to get going down the hill they finally figure out what we had been telling them all along...it is not going to work. They did eventually get the wood on the fire!

Tyler...looking good as he plants some pansies in front of a cabin.

Tyler watches as Thad digs a hole to plant the shrub they were assigned to plant. How much work do you think they really got done???

Grandma Carol takes a break from gardening. Notice the beautiful flowers and plants behind her...good job Grandma!

As you can see the weekend was not ALL work. James, Justin, Tommy and Thad were able to get an afternoon of airsofting in!

James and Justin with our friend Bryce (from Family Camp)...notice that Bryce is on his knees, while the other 2 are standing as tall as they possibly can.
